Google India has brokered a groundbreaking two-year deal with Global Cricket Ventures, the licensing partner to the Indian Premier League, giving them exclusive rights to stream live cricket matches from the IPL on YouTube.

Viewers will be able to watch all 60 matches in the 2010 IPL for free on a dedicated online channel which will include match highlights, player interviews, pitch reports as well as an exclusive “YouTube View” which will not be available to those watching on television.

This is mutually beneficial deal for IPL and Google. The fan following of IPL would bring in a lot of new visitors to YouTube, who in turn would become regular members. For the Indian Premier League this is a good call since it would create a huge online Buzz.

The deal marks a worldwide first in live streaming of any global sporting event where action is expected to reach half-a-billion viewers during the 45 day tournament.

The First two seasons were extremely successful in garnering worldwide interest in the T20 form of Cricket. This year IPL comes back in the third season.

This is a huge deal because the streaming of the 2010 IPL season (which starts on Friday 12th March and lasts for 45 days) is the first time a large-scale global sporting event will be streamed; with the reach expected to be at least a half-a-billion viewers.

The Live Telecast would be available worldwide, except maybe in United States, where Willow TV Inc. has the rights to North American Broadcast and they are charging a fee to stream live.
